The Buenos Aires Community Center is one of nine community centers that are under the direction of the Webb County Judge and Commissioners Court. Commissioner Jerry Garza, Precinct 3 has taken the Buenos Aires Community Center under his wings and has promised the residents who are currently part of this center a new facility which will be ready in 2008.

The Buenos Aires Community Center has an array of services and programs to assist the many residents of this area. The Community Action Agency which is a partner of our Center offers services such as Utility assistance, Rental Assistance, Weatherization Assistance, just to name a few.

Our Elderly Participants program offers a place for many of our elderly to come and spend some time with their friends playing loteria and enjoy a hot nutritious meal provided by Meals on Wheels. Other events that the participants enjoy on a monthly basis are field trips to their favorite restaurants, visiting other community centers and birthday and holiday celebrations.

Additional services that are offered through the Buenos Aires Community Center are the Food Bank monthly distribution of food bags. Over 150 families are registered and participate in this program. Our weekly bread distribution is offered every Monday at the Center. Families are given between two to three pieces of bread each week. Another popular program is the Buena Vida Program which is an exercise program that is offered three times a week. This gives our participants the opportunity to break the routine of playing loteria and enjoy some much needed exercise. One of the newest and most exciting services we just added was “Movie Days”. This program allows for residents within our community including children to come by during the afternoon and enjoy a “Day at the Movies”. We offer a wide variety of movies such as the “Lion King”, “Gone with the Wind” or an old classic like “Nosotros Los Pobres” with Pedro Infante; along with your movie you can enjoy a bag of popcorn and a soda.

Other services that our participants enjoy are haircuts and facials. These are just some of many things that our community center offers to our Elderly Participants. It’s easy to register, just call or come by our center.

There are many other events that take place here at the Buenos Aires Community Center. Many of our partners and providers often host informational meetings to the residents of this area. It is our way of keeping this community informed of the many services available to them.

Please keep in mind that the Buenos Aires Community Center is also one of many designated sites that issue the Webb County Discount Prescription Card available to all Webb County residents.
