The Meals on Wheels Program

The Meals on Wheels Program has been in existence for well over 40 years and proudly delivers meals to more than 300 homebound elderly or disabled Laredoans everyday.

But that’s not all we deliver. We also provide human contact, conversations and a connection to the outside world that many of our aged neighbors would lack without our daily visits. Last year, Meals on Wheels delivered more than 90,000 hot nutritious ready to eat meals (and as many warm smiles) to seniors across Laredo and Webb County.

 Eligibility Criteria

1. Meals must be served to: A person 60 years of age or older; or The spouse of a person 60 years of age or older who is receiving a meal according to rules and regulations.

2. Referral Process: Applicants/clients apply for services by contacting a Community Care for Aged and disabled (CCAD) caseworker. The caseworker conducts a face-to-face interview to determine if an applicant meets eligibility criteria for the service. The caseworker may authorize services for up to one year.

Immediate Response The availability of a meal slot is first determined should a client need immediate service.

Time – Limited Referrals Adult Protective Services (APS) clients may be eligible for services for up to 30 days while APS staff seek a permanent care arrangement.

Reauthorizations Before the clients current service authorization expires, the caseworker will reassess the client and revise the service plan as necessary. The caseworker reauthorizes services annually at the time of financial eligibility redetermination.

Waiting List As slot become available, the contract manager follows designated regional procedures for referring names from the waiting list.
